Founding Inspiration, Maitland Justice Foundation, Inc.
Bio
Mrs. Joyce Evelyn Maitland (1933–2026) was a woman of extraordinary faith, strength, and purpose. Born in Little London, Westmoreland, Jamaica, she lived nearly 93 remarkable years devoted to her family, her God, and the pursuit of justice for the vulnerable. She was the guiding force behind the Maitland Justice Foundation, Inc.
Education
Mrs. Maitland received her early education at an elementary school in Little London, Jamaica. After immigrating to the United States, she continued her studies at Bronx Community College, demonstrating her lifelong belief in the power of learning and self-improvement.
Service & Community
Her life was defined by selfless service — preparing meals for neighbors, reaching out to the retired, the disabled, and the homeless, and volunteering in the children’s division at Einstein Montefiore Hospital. She served every community she called home, from Jamaica to Tampa to the Bronx. She believed that faith must be lived, not merely spoken.
Church
A faithful member of the Little London SDA Church in Jamaica and the North Bronx SDA Church — her mother church — Mrs. Maitland found her deepest ministry at Victory SDA Church, a daughter church of North Bronx SDA Church. There, she served as a devoted Deacon and choir member, known lovingly as “Deacon Maitland,” where she continued her faithful service.
Legacy
The Maitland Justice Foundation, Inc. is the living fulfillment of her vision — born from her plea for justice and her enduring call:
“Stand for those who cannot defend themselves.” Every case championed and every life uplifted through the Foundation reflects her light.
The work continues. The vision lives on.
In our hearts, you will forever be loved and remembered.
